The best bakeries in Sydney
Updated: Feb 19, 2024
After settling in Sydney for a few months, I embarked on the challenge of finding you the best croissants and the most delicious bakeries in the city, and I was not disappointed! From the moment I arrived here, I immediately understood that there was a real enthusiasm for pastries and genuine passionate artisans! In this article, I share with you my recommendations for the best croissants in Sydney.
LODE PIES :
Located in the charming neighborhood of Surry Hills, this pastry shop has quickly become one of my favorites! Clearly among the top for croissants in Sydney!
What really struck me about Lode Pies is their simple and effective approach. They have only 10 pastries on the menu, but each one is a little gem. I tried a few of their creations, and it was a burst of flavors.
The beef bourguignon-style pie is to die for. Wagyu beef, mushrooms, carrots... everything is there for an incredible taste experience. And their pain au chocolat, oh my God! Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, with a puff pastry that simply amazed me. It's pastry art, truly.
For those with a sweet tooth, the Danish fruit tart is a real wonder. A mixture of puff pastry, almond cream, blueberry jam, vanilla pastry cream, and fresh blueberries. It's sweet, but not too much, and each layer adds something special.
Oh, and don't even get me started on their flaky cinnamon roll. It's the kind of thing that warms your heart. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, with a burst of cinnamon that feels good.
Anyway, if you're in Sydney, I highly recommend stopping by Lode Pies. It's a place where you feel good, with pastries that are worth the detour. You won't be disappointed, trust me!

TENACIOUS :
Tenacious, a hidden gem for pastry enthusiasts. They really know what they're doing!
I had the pleasure of trying some of their creations, and the first one that really stood out to me was their savory puff pastry with chicken and spicy sweet potato. Truly original and delicious, a combination I had never tried elsewhere. The execution was perfect, a burst of flavors with every bite.
However, I must be honest, their "pasteis de Nata" didn't quite convince me. The pastry was a bit too cooked for my taste, which slightly spoiled the experience. But hey, to each their own, and even if it wasn't my favorite, you might still enjoy it!
On the other hand, the croissant was a total success. Well-aerated, with beautiful layers of flakiness, it was exactly what I look for in a good croissant. You could really taste the quality of the dough and the care put into the preparation. And I must mention their chocolate banana croissant: amazing!! Very indulgent and approved since I love this combination.
In summary, if you're in the Darlinghurst area and you want to treat yourself to well-executed, original pastries, both savory and sweet, Tenacious is a place not to be missed. Go ahead, treat yourself!

ROLLERS BAKEHOUSE :
Rollers Bakehouse, a bakery and coffee shop gem nestled in a small alley in Manly. It's a place, I assure you, you won't want to miss!
The first thing that enchanted me was the incredible atmosphere of this place. The vibe of Rollers Bakehouse is unique, very chill, making every visit a pleasant experience.
Now, let's talk about their delicious wonders. Their croissant is divinely executed. Perfectly done: indulgent, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, it embodies everything I love in a good croissant.
The best-seller, without a doubt for me, is their Cinnamon Roll. The subtle marriage between the good taste of cinnamon and the blend of 4 spices was a real delight for the taste buds. An explosion of sweet and spicy flavors that creates a perfect harmony.
And then, there's this ham and cheese croissant with the taste of bacon... a real killer! Indulgent to the max, it combines the softness of the croissant with the irresistible flavor of bacon, creating a savory experience that leaves a memorable impression.
Rollers Bakehouse in Manly has become a must-visit address for me in Sydney. If you're passing through the area, I highly recommend making a detour to this little gourmet alley. The quality of their creations and the variety of their flavors make this place a true paradise for lovers of good food. So, go ahead and let yourself be seduced by the magic of Rollers Bakehouse! Bonus point, they change the flavors of their pastries every month, giving you a good excuse for those planning to spend some time in Sydney.

AP BREAD :
AP Bread, a bakery nestled on a rooftop in the Surry Hills neighborhood of Sydney. It has become a reference point for pastry enthusiasts and bread lovers here. Let me tell you about my first visit, which was a true revelation!
Located on the rooftops of Sydney, AP Bread offers a unique experience, but I advise you to go outside of peak hours to truly enjoy the calm and the breathtaking view of Sydney. It was the first place I tried when I arrived in Sydney, and the concept of picking up your croissant on the city rooftops immediately charmed me.
To access this special place, you have to go through its big sister, the famous coffee shop and brunch spot at Paramount Coffee Project. Once there, you'll find an elevator that will take you directly to this gourmet oasis up high.
On the well-stocked shelves, you'll discover a variety of tempting pastries. In addition to the essential croissants, I had the chance to try their cruffin with vanilla cream and rhubarb compote. It was amazing, an explosion of flavors and textures.
In addition to the sweet delights, AP Bread also offers à la carte dishes for a heartier breakfast. The place is a paradise for lovers of good food and a relaxing atmosphere.
I am really looking forward to going back to try more pastries and continue exploring their menu. AP Bread has definitely won my heart, and I can only recommend this must-visit address to all foodies passing through Sydney. So, don't hesitate to venture onto the rooftops of the city for an exceptional gourmet experience!

TOP IMPRESSION :
As soon as you enter the shop, the display case overflows with tempting pastries. I indulged in some of their creations, and let me tell you, the keyword here is generosity.
I started with the vanilla cream chocolate bread. Very crispy and generous, it won me over, even though I would have preferred a bit more intensity in the vanilla flavor. However, the crunchy texture and the generosity of the filling were undeniable, creating a pleasant combination in the mouth.
Next, the famous croissant in the style of a "rocher" stole the show. Filled with cocoa cream and roasted hazelnuts on top, it was an explosion of flavors and textures. A true delight for chocolate and hazelnut lovers.
To be honest, the butter croissant may have been a notch below my expectations. A bit dry on the inside, but it didn't detract from my overall experience. The variety of choices and the creativity of flavors at Top Impression make this bakery a must-visit destination.
In conclusion, if you want to feast your eyes and your stomach, I highly recommend making a detour to Top Impression Bakery. With several locations in Sydney, you'll definitely find something to delight in among their gourmet delights. Go ahead, indulge yourself, you won't be disappointed!

HOME CROISSANTERIE :
Nestled in Balmain, Home Croissanterie was founded by a professional engineer who, out of passion, ventured into the art of pastry making. His fascination for croissants and laminated dough permeates each of his creations. Upon entering, the atmosphere is warm and familial, with even the pastry chef's brother providing service! This closeness adds a special touch to the experience.
We were enchanted by the potato croissant roll: a delightful discovery, offering a subtle blend of comforting flavors and crispy texture. You experience the taste of chips with the richness of the laminated dough; it was original and truly delicious! The bacon and maple syrup roll, along with the classic butter croissant, also won us over, both for their meticulous preparation and their taste. Lastly, the Swiss chocolate croissant, with its cocoa laminated dough, vanilla cream, and chocolate chips, was a true delight in terms of flavor and aesthetics. A genuine trip down memory lane...
